Dr. Scott began his law enforcement career in April 1978 as a police officer with the North Miami Police Department. He served in the patrol division until moving to the North Miami Beach Police Department in January of 1982.

Dr. Scott was quickly promoted to Crime Scene/Homicide Investigator in 1983, a position he held for six years. During this time he also served on the department’s Special Weapons and Tactics Unit. As a patrol officer, Dr. Scott received numerous awards, including Officer of the Month-five times, Officer of the Year-twice, and Officer of the month for Miami-Dade County- twice. Mr. Scott was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1989. In this capacity, Mr. Scott worked in a variety of units including patrol, homicide investigations, criminal investigations, property and evidence room, K-9, and accreditation.

Continuing a pattern of rapid career advancement, Dr. Scott was promoted to Lieutenant with expanded responsibilities including oversight of personnel and training, internal affairs, computer technology, patrol, accreditation, and criminal investigations.

Dr. Scott was quickly promoted to Major and then to Assistant Chief for the North Miami Beach Police Department. In these capacities Mr. Scott served as the Acting Chief of Police during the Chief’s absence. He was assigned oversight and development of the department’s budget section. He also implemented a state of the art computer system for the agency, including laptops in all patrol cars featuring a wireless connection for the transmission of reports and crime-related data. Mr. Scott retired from the North Miami Beach Police Department in October 1998.

The city of Boca Raton, Florida selected Dr. Scott as the Chief of Police in October 1998 out of a field of 147 candidates nationally. He held this position until January, 2006 when he retired from law enforcement. He currently serves as President of AJS Consulting, Inc.
